Pioneering Americana roots music, neo-traditional country singer-songwriter, a raucous, tangled, soaked in sweat, kind of embrace.--From CDBaby.com.
Trent Wagler of the Steel Wheels and the Goldmine Pickers' Jay Lapp have teamed up to make a recording of original songs with some traditional tunes thrown in for good measure, with the end result being their current release, Adrienna Valentine.
It's a wonderful blend of two great singers performing thirteen great songs, added in with some outstanding musicians. It’s a new twist to some old time music and it all works very well in the process.
Wagler's voice gets right in on the action on the opening track of "Darlin' Cory," with well-done vocals through the entire track. Other songs worth taking note are "Riverside," "Corinne," and the title track, "Adrianna Valentine," are a few favorites.
While this album is not an exhibition of Wagler's vocal talents, he performs all the songs well and there is a strong story to be told behind each while he is performing them.
Adrienna Valentine is comprised entirely of good songs and even a few that some listeners may even describe as devastatingly beautiful. It's bluegrass and old time music with a bit of modern flavor, a break from the everyday grind of electronically created, thrown together music.
In any event I doubt that even for those not into this genre of music, I don't think this album is much of a disappointment, and I'd like to think that if this is any indication of what these guys can turn out, they can be forces to be reckoned with in the music world for at least a little while.
